Our Work: U.S. Program — Office for Global Concerns Peace, Social Justice and Integrity of Creation The Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns represents all three Maryknoll entities (Fathers & Brothers, Sisters, and Lay Missioners) in their work for justice and peace. Our mission is carried out through education and advocacy in consultation with Maryknollers around the world and in cooperation with other Maryknoll departments and entities, including Maryknoll Affiliates. The Office for Global Concerns grew out of the Fathers and Brothers Justice and Peace Office, established in 1974, and the Maryknoll Sisters' Office of Social Concerns, established in 1978. Each was created to assist in carrying out Maryknoll's responsibility of promoting concern and action for justice as constitutive to the preaching of the Gospel and the same could be said of Maryknoll's work of mission. Our office works regularly with the U.S. Catholic Conference, the Conference of Major Superiors of Men, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, the U.S. Catholic Mission Association, Columbans, Franciscans and other organizations and communities working for peace, social justice and the integrity of creation. We serve as a resource for Maryknollers, and we attempt to bring the voice and experience of Maryknoll into policy discussions in the United Nations, the U.S. and other governments, international financial institutions and the corporate world. The Office for Global Concerns is involved with many collaborative efforts both with leadership of Maryknoll Fathers & Brothers, Maryknoll Sisters, and Maryknoll Lay Missioners, and within the Washington D.C. ecumenical community.
