The AIDS ministry team is involved in three programs: youth, accompaniment, and preventive education. Debbie’s work is primarily in the preventative education area. The focus is to educate people in parishes and schools primarily about AIDS: its causes and prevention. Also workshops are offered on gender, sexuality, self-esteem, and methods of participatory education. In addition, Debbie works with children who attend the clinic on Wednesdays with a program of activities and education. Some of the children are HIV+ or are the children of parents who are HIV+. Many are behind in school and need extra encouragement and help with their school work. Also, she works one day a week in a women’s prison giving workshops.
Debbie is the first lay missioner to become a team member for the project. Her counseling and teaching skills make her an excellent addition!
